Alan Weathers 

Director of Bands

Alan Weathers attended Georgia Southern University from 2008-2013. He graduated with a Bachelor’s in Music Education in 2013. During his time at Southern, Weathers was in the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, and the Southern Pride Marching Band.

Weathers has been a part of the percussion instructional staff for SPMB, Pope High School in Marietta, Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps in Jacksonville, Southeast Bulloch High School in Brooklet, along with many other groups. Ensembles under his instruction have consistently earned superior ratings along with awards from competitive events across the state and nation during his career.

Weathers played in the front ensemble for Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps in the Summer of 2009, and returned to teach the SPMB Front Ensemble from 2010-2012. Weathers started the Blazing Brigade back in 2013, fielding New Hampstead's first ever competitive marching band, and earning superior ratings at LGPE in 2015.

After stints as Director of Bands both at New Hampstead in Bloomingdale and Bradwell Institute in Hinesville, Weathers returned to Georgia Southern to earn a Masters as a graduate assistant. He graduated from Georgia Southern a second time with a Masters in Conducting in 2020, studying underneath Dr. Daniel Haddad and Dr. Robert Dunham.

After teaching for some time in the Atlanta area, Weathers returned to New Hampstead High School and the Savannah region as a freelance composer, arranger, drummer, musician, and educator. He is passionate about playing and teaching, enjoying golf and boating in his spare time.

Josh Watford 

Assistant Director of Bands

Brass Caption Head

Mr. Watford has been teaching band for 8 years. Prior to coming to New Hampstead K-8, he served as the Band Director at Spalding High School in Griffin, Ga. In Mr. Watford's time as director at Spalding High School, bands consistently earned excellent and superior ratings at marching festivals and Large Group Performance Evaluation. 

Before his time at Spalding High School, Mr. Watford was the band and chorus director for a year at Kennedy Road Middle School in Griffin, Ga. He also started his career as the Band Director at Screven County Middle School in Sylvania, Ga. 

Mr. Watford graduated with his Master's of Music Education from the University of Georgia in 2022. He received his Bachelor's of Music Education from Valdosta State University. He is a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, International Trombone Association, National Band Association, Georgia Music Educators Association, and the National Association for Music Education. He lives in Savannah with his wife and puppy. 



Mia O'neal 

Colorguard Coordinator 


Mia O'neal was born and raised in Georgia and gained a relationship 

with band in the the 5th grade. She has been doing dance and dance 

related activities since she was 3. She has done sports such as cheer 

and gymanastics for multiple years along with colorguard for a year 

later in high school. She received the National Colorguard award after 

participating in the Blazing Brigade.
